| Narrative | The massacre at Hodgson Downs occurred shortly before 1903 (or 1904, according to different sources.) Estimates of the number killed range between thirty and forty Alawa people, including men, women and children. It is reported that white settlers circled and shot ?Aboriginal men who had been cutting timber for them, flinging children against trees or smashing stones against their skulls, and shooting women.?
According to August Sandy Lirriwirri, Stephen Roberts? grandfather, Old Charlie Waypuldanya, was among the few people who escaped. |
