Jane Hooper had a daughter Margaret L. Hooper (b. Middlesex 1854/5), who became an artist and illustrator and a son, Winnard Hooper (1853-1935), city editor of The Times. CMY's letter to Hooper perhaps implies that they were the characters in the story. CMY recommended it in ‘Hints on Reading' MP (March 1862) 335, despite having told Ann Carter Smith she didn't care for it.
