Hursley (place)

Description

At the time of CMY's birth the village she lived in, Otterbourne, was ecclesiastically part of the neighbouring parish of Hursley, where the principal landowner, Sir William Heathcote, Bt., lived at Hursley Park. In her teenage years the Vicar of Hursley, the Rev. John Keble, in collaboration with Heathcote and CMY's father, was engaged in a programme of church and school building, which eventually led to the creation of the new parishes of Ampfield and Otterbourne out of Hursley.
