Description

This organisation was founded in 1859 in protest at the government legislating on church matters. It supported many of those accused of ritualism under the Public Worship Regulation Act (1874). The organisation changed its name to the Church Union in 1933, and still exists as a High Church lobby group within the Church of England, currently (2009) resisting the arrival of women bishops.
