Biography
He retired in 1851 as Lt-Col 3rd Bombay Light Cavalry. He married, first, Mary Emma Coulthard and, secondly (1853), Caroline Jeannette [or Janetta] Bignell, who married subsequently the Rev. James Beck. He was the son of W. Walter, and descended from John Walter the founder of The Times. His daughter Frances Walter married JBY; his daughter Gertrude lived with CMY from the 1870s; CMY also often mentions his daughters Mary (Walter) Woolcombe and Louisa (Walter) Halliday.
