Margaret Wilcox was the daughter of William Wilcox (1813-1872), Collector of Customs, and his wife Mary Anne Marwood (1813-1870), half-sister of the Rev. Charles Dodgson (1800-1868), father of Lewis Carroll.They lived at Whitburn, Northumberland, near CMY's friends the Harrisons. There were 14 children, of which she was the third.
