He married (1871) Mary Walter, whose sister Frances was married to CMY's brother JBY, and whose sister Gertrude Walter lived with CMY. He came from a gentry family settled near Puslinch and his brother was married to Anne Catharina Pode, who was a cousin, niece of WCY.
