Biography
He became bishop in 1852. Before that he had travelled in France with Roundell Palmer in 1834, and married (1835) Charlotte Day, who died giving birth to a daughter Charlotte Emmeline (b. 1839). He was second master of Winchester College 1835-1846, and author of Christian Boyhood at a Public School (1846). He was first headmaster of Trinity College Glenalmond, 1847. He married, secondly (28 October 1846), Katharine Mary Barter (d. 23 Apr 1897), eldest daughter of the Rev. William Barter, Rector of Burghclere, and niece of Warden Barter; he had 12 children by his second marriage. Like the Rt. Rev. Christopher Wordsworth, Bishop of Lincoln, he was a son of the poet’s brother Christopher, master of Trinity College, Cambridge. [ODNB]
