Biography
The European Magazine 14 (1788) 231 recorded the marriage of Samuel Leake, esq., of the Isle of Wight, to Sophia Bargus, youngest daughter of Richard Bargus esq. of Fareham. She appears to have been a half-sister of the Rev. Thomas Bargus. The Gentleman’s Magazine 182 (1847) 563 records her death at Cheltenham aged 85, spelling it Leeke, and stating that she was the mother of Captain Sir Henry Leeke, R.N. (1794-1870, ODNB,/i>). Lady Tucker, to whom CMY refers, would thus be her daughter and FMY’s first cousin.
