Description
member of the Gosling Society as Bessie (or Befsie)
Biography
This letter was found in the Guille autograph album, and was almost certainly addressed to one of the eight daughters of the Rev. George de Cartaret Guille, Rector of Torrington, and his wife Sophia Stevens, heiress of Cross, near Torrington. The most likely candidate seems to be the third sister, Charlotte Esther Sophia Guille Other possibilities among the sisters are the eldest, Louisa Margaret A. Guille (b. 1849) who m. (1877) the Rev. Frederick Colby and then (1905) William Secker; or the second, Marian Elizabeth Guille (1851-1931) who married (1881) William George Le Cocq, RN (1842/3-1913). Their younger sister Rosa Caroline (b.1858) became (1878) the wife of the poet William Johnson Cory.
