The Morning Post (21 June 1897) recorded the deaths of Maria Susan Gunner, 67, widow of Thomas Gunner, Recorder of Southampton, and her mother Caroline Hale, 91, widow of Edward Hale of Hambledon House, and daughter of Admiral Hugh Downman.
