Biography
He succeeded his distant cousin the fifth earl of Guilford in 1827. He was Master of St. Cross Hospital, Rector of St. Mary's, Southampton, and of Old Alresford, New Alresford and Medstead, mentioned by CMY (16 Jan 1854). He was a notorious pluralist and sparked the debates which gave rise to Trollope’s The Warden.
