Biography

The only son of the Rev. Joseph H. Harris’s first marriage to Charlotte Collyer. She died, probably in child birth in 1834 in Canada and Joseph remarried (1837) Jane Yonge, sister of Uncle Yonge, who had accompanied her sister Lady Seaton to Canada. George Harris was born in Toronto and educated at Harrow and Exeter College Oxford (BA 1856, MA 1858) He served as curate of Chipping Campden 1857-9, then Tor Mohun 1859-65; he was Vicar of St Luke's, Torquay from 1865 until his death. He died at his parents' house, Sorel, Torquay.  He married (London 1865) Percy [sic] Primrose (b. Quebec 1839/40) and had Edward Percy Harris (b.1866/7-?d.1872),  George Montagu Harris (b.1869) and Mary J Y Harris (b.1871), the latter the biographer of Frances Mary Peard.
