Biography
She contributed to MP (1855-7) five papers on ‘Traditions of Norway’, with which she had probably become acquainted while the family lived there. Daughter of the Rev. Richard Carter Smith and sister of Ann Carter Smith, she was christened St. Olave, Hart Street, London, 13 September 1827, and married (1856), on his being appointed Master of Clare College, the Rev. Dr. Edward Atkinson (1819-1915), and died childless. He was the longest-serving ever head of a Cambridge College. In his obituary in The Times (3 March 1915) 13d, she is described as a niece of a former fellow and tutor of the college (i.e. William Williamson).
