Biography
His name is sometimes spelt Jones Bateman. He was a barrister, educated at Winchester and New College, Oxford. He made friends with JBY on fishing trip to Norway, hence moved to Otterbourne, conspicuous in parish work. His wife was Jessy Burlton (b. 1839/40).
