I find most people grumble at Leonard’s not being hung, but I mean to make much more of him.1
1The Trial: More Links of the Daisy Chain, in which Leonard Ward is tried and convicted of murder,was serialized in MP from January 1862 to April 1864. The commutation of Leonard’s sentence from death to imprisonment for life was announced at the beginning of the chapter in the issue of April 1863.
