My dear Francis,

Here is a new stamp just issued in Philadelphia2 for carrying letters from one part of the city to the other, I suppose a successor to our old friend Blood. I conclude you have not got it, but if you have one, please return this, as my stamp office has four clients, of whom you always have the first turn, as the original one – I wish you had all been at the picnic on the heath, it was great fun.

When any of you do come this way, we shall shew ourselves off to much more advantage than when your mother saw us last, though as some articles are yet to come, we dont consider ourselves as come to perfection – but still I think if she came this way, she would bear the sight of us better than last time —3

Yours very sincerely

C M Yonge

1Black-edged paper. Envelope addressed to F H Wilson esq/Parsonage/Rownhams/Southampton and postmarked Winchester and Southampton 18 and 19 August 1863.
2This presumably came from CMY’s American friend, Miss Lewis - 710 Pine St Philadelphia US.
3This suggests that Maria Wilson had visited FMY and CMY at Elderfield before they had undertaking the London shopping mentioned in the letter to Anne Yonge, dated 25 July 1863.
