Dear Miss Godman
I am afraid you will be disappointed to hear that I have nothing to do with the advertisements

You must send one direct to the publisher with a shilling for every twenty words But it is too late for January, so I am afraid the rabbits will have to grow older2

yours truly
C M Yonge

1With envelope addressed to 'Miss Hilda Godman/ Muntham/ Itchenfield/ ?Hareham' and postmarked Winchester 17 December 1882 and Horsham 18 December 1882. In the 1881 census Muntham was the home of Percy Sander Godman, his wife and five children, of whom Alice Hilda (1875-1925) was the second.
2Evidently the plan was dispose of surplus rabbits through the columns of MP.
