Dear Mr Craik,

Thank you for the ₤25. I should much like to have Mme de Witt as a contributor to the Monthly Packet and am much obliged to Mrs Craik for mentioning it – I could easily get the translations done , indeed I am beset with people who want to translate and could clearly do it well.

The only doubt is in the matter of payment, which we cannot make so good as you do, but I will write to her about it2

Yours sincerely

CM Yonge

1Black-edged paper.
2Henriette de Witt's earliest contribution to MP seems to have been 'A Good Example, or, A Manufacturing Town in France' Monthly Packet (October 1868) 378-92, but CMY's correspondence with her seems to date from 1864. In March that year CMY was still using black-edged paper following the death of her cousin John Bargus Yonge in November 1863.
