Dear Mr Macmillan,
Many thanks, it is very agreeable to get anything out of America. I have a story of the time of Henry V and James I of Scotland – about half out in the Monthly Packet, and all written. I was thinking of proposing it to you for Christmas when it will be finished in the Monthly Packet. Might not some arrangement be made about it with Scribner. I could either send them the numbers already in type the MP – or they might be printed at once, and the duplicate sheets sent up to the end. I do not think we ever came to any agreement about the Chaplet itself – whether you give me £200 as before for the first edition.

I do not know what has become of the proof of the Parallel History. The printers sent me the copy, evidently printed from but no proofs with it.

What do you think about a volume of essay kind of papers? I have done a few at times for the Christian Remembrancer, one on Miss Sewell’s principles of education – one on Folklore, an account of the Sanitary Commission in the American war, a life of Lord Seaton, and a few more which are in the Literary Churchman – they seem to me some of them rather worth saving, but they would keep. I have likewise in MS a nearly completed essay on or rather history of literature for children, which I should add to those. It is too long for the Magazine, and not at all in the same tone.2

Yours sincerely
C M Yonge
