Dear Mrs White
I cannot remember Miss Evelyn Gee’s present address, so would you be so kind as to forward this note to her containing a request from some one in Sloane Street to print her Eagle Story, which certainly has been a great favourite2

Yours truly
C M Yonge

1Another example of this paper dates from July 1882.
2CMY’s bank account records the payment of £5 to Miss E. Gee on 10 April 1873, the only one to a person of this name. A story ‘What the Church Eagle Said’ appeared in MP (?Christmas 1872) 4. Evelyn Gee (b. Herts. 1843/4), daughter of the Rev. Richard Gee, Vicar of Abbots Langley and later of Windsor, who married 1880 Richard Rivington Holmes, librarian at Windsor Castle, seems a plausible candidate. He has an entry in ODNB, which states that she survived him. No separate publication of the story has been traced.
