1A printed postcard, addressed on reverse to ‘Miss W M James/ Clarghyll Hall/ Alston/ Carlisle’ and postmarked 23 July 1873. James was a novelist, who contributed a story called 'Coin of the Realm' to the MP Christmas number of 1874 under her usual pseudonym 'Austin Clare'. However, this enigmatic message does not seem to relate to that.
