My dear Miss Freeman
Let me hint at the wonderful adventures of the Scottish regalia in Cromwell’s time. Meeting with them in Miss Macarthurs history set me upon the question.1 Also Colonel Blood and the English. I think too the iron crown of Lombardy might come in and the adventures of the Scottish royal stone would be admissible. I tell you all this to be secure of someone making a full answer

Yours sincerely
C M Yonge

1Freeman was taking part in the Spider Society essay competitions in the MP. 'What curious adventures have the Regalia of different countries undergone?' was one of the Spider questions for May 1874. 'Pisa''s 'Curious Adventures of the Regalia of Different Countries', appeared in MP (July 1874), 3-9.
