Dear Mr Craik

Thank you for seeing to the books. The thanks for them from Wantage arrived the day before yesterday, but I could not write before as I only came home from Oxfordshire and am paying the price of my four days holiday by having more letters to answer than I can manage1

yours truly
C M Yonge

Did I say how charmed I was with your bright little sister in law?2

1She had arranged for a set of her novels to be sent to the Community of St. Mary the Virgin, Wantage, for transmission to their convent in Bombay.
2Perhaps Fanny Esther Duffield (1849-1923) who married (1873) Craik's younger brother Henry Craik (1846-1927), an examiner in the Education Department.
