MS Mrs Clare Roels

My dear Christabel

Here are only two Goslings and those very poor ones. Mayfly says she has had no questions since April. Moreover Frog is going to be married in September so do not you really think it would be better to give a coup de grace to the Goslings and let them turn into Spiders.1 Somehow I think we might let each spider in rotation send me up a few questions to choose from. Could not you come and read me your story? Any time after the 24th of August I should be ready, and it is so long since I have seen you! Could not you give your perfect hero some little weak point, by which to lay hold of him, and give him human interest.

Our senior pupil teacher has just got the 1st prize from the local Cruelty to Animals Society for an essay on Beer. I did not know she was doing it

yours affectionately
C M Yonge

1CMY and Coleridge did in fact decide to wind up the Gosling Society, on the grounds that its members were not keen enough and that the Spider Society, run through MP, could take its place.
