Messrs Harper

I am much obliged for the £10 for Love and Life received on the 14th yesterday. I am also much obliged to you for sending me your ‘paper for young people.’1 I ventured to extract a short poem on the Plumes of Crecy for a Reading Book for schools making however a few alterations to bring it more into accordance with history than romance2

Yours faithfully
C.M. Yonge

1There is a pencil line beside the mention of the reading book and ‘Is not this worth mention?’ written in pencil. Underneath, in ink ‘Attended to./ S.S.C.’
2Lillie E. Barr, ‘The Plumes of Creçy’ was included in English History Reading Books III, 106-9, with a note ‘in Harper’s Young People (slightly altered)’. CMY has reciprocated the American piracy of her work.
