My dear Miss Smith

Thank you much I will keep the story for the final selection. I think the mistake is excellently done, but I am not sure that the girls’ taking the journey on purpose to defy Mr Ritchie is not too dreadful.

I am so glad you have brought out Dulcibella again2

yours sincerely
C M Yonge

1Envelope with violet engraving on flap addressed to Miss Carter Smith/ Thistleworth/ Stevenage and postmarked Winchester (date cut out) and Stevenage 17 January 1883.
2CMY seems to refer to two stories by Carter Smith here: a story for the Christmas number which does not seem to have been chosen, and 'The Tramp of Many Feet', which was in course of serialization in the Churchman's Companion.
