1Lady Sophia Palmer (1852-1915), was the daughter of Lord Selborne, who had been raised to an earldom on 29 December 1882.
2The Hon. Sir Arthur Gordon (1829-1912), created (1893) Lord Stanmore, moved in 1883 from being Governor-General of New Zealand to being Governor-General of Ceylon.
