Dear Mr Craik

I think I had better glance over the Shells.

I have begun upon the flowers but I find there must be a great revolution there, as it is no use in these days to teach the old Linnean system. I can manage by transposition, but it will take some time to set it in order, and I think it had better come in time for the spring, as it starts with the flowers of the months.

I do not think ‘Householders’ need as much retouching, but I only have it in the magazine, and could look it over better in the pages to be printed from.1

I have been waiting to hear what the Liverpool lady says to the downfall of her plans – but she has not written.

My present idea is to put the history of the Reign into the Monthly Packet and then publish it after wards if there seems an opening, but I have not yet had her answer so that I cannot quite decide.2

Yours truly
C M Yonge

1CMY was trying to get 'Householders' and The Herb of the Field republished.
2The unnamed Liverpool lady had encouraged CMY to write the book which appeared as Victorian Half-Century.
