MS British Library Add MSS 54921: 206-7

Dear Mr Craik
I cannot at all tell whether this is the right length, as the only ‘Golden Treasuries’ I have seen are my own and I do not think they have introductions.1

I can easily add biographical details if you wish it to be longer – but I like to write to my own sense of the needs of the subject and to add or diminish afterwards as required.

Do you know whether Mrs Ritchie is abroad. I was moved to write to her by sympathy with her preface to Miss Mitford, and I have never had an answer

Yours truly
C M Yonge

1CMY's A Book of Golden Deeds, A Book of Worthies and The Story of the Christians and the Moors in Spain all appeared in Macmillan's Golden Treasury Series. CMY was presumably working on her introduction to the Golden Treasury edition of The Christian Year.
