MS Bodleian Library, Oxford: MS English Letters: e.174 ff 173-4

Dear Mr Bullock,
Here is Salisbury. I am sorry I could find no more to say about it, the cathedral having been all built at once, and the Bishops not having been memorable except the last four.1 Burnet I could not put in!2 The sunshine on the Altar on the 15th of August is quite true. I have seen it twice

Yours sincerely
C M Yonge

1CMY refers to the work she was doing for Bullock's Daily Lections project. The last four Bishops of Salisbury had been Edward Denison, Walter Kerr Hamilton, George Moberly and John Wordsworth, all High Churchmen.
2Gilbert Burnet (1643-1715) was probably both too worldly and too Low Church to please CMY.
