Dear Miss Giberne
Uncle Peter’s Fairy Tale was written by Dr William Sewell, but the preface was not of my writing.1 I am afraid it has been long out of print, and I have no copy, but it would be well worth reprinting.

Probably Longman was the publisher. The only way of getting it would be to ask a second hand book seller to look out for it

It is one of the cleverest things I ever read. It ought to be reprinted, and I think the copyright must be exhausted I have had such kind letters from your aunt2

2A possible candidate for either the recipient of this letter or the aunt referred to is Agnes Giberne (1845-1939), a prolific author of fiction who lived with her aged father, retired from the Indian army, in Eastbourne; however she does not seem to have had any brother who could have produced a niece named Giberne. Her mother was Lydia Mary Wilson, eldest daughter of the Rev. W. Wilson, Rector of Walthamstow. There was a contributor to Mothers in Council during CMY’s editorship named Caroline Giberne.
