1A postcard postmarked Winchester 2.15 PM De 12 96, addressed to ‘Miss Hall/ Greyladies/ Blackheath Hill/ London SE’. The College of Greyladies was a community of women engaged from about 1893 in social work, ‘in the sober fashion of the Church of England’ as its founder the Bishop of Southwark put it in a letter to The Times (2 February 1895). Susan Esther Wordsworth was subsequently its head.
