Dear Madam
Macmillan published both series of the Store House of Stories. I do not know that the second series is gone out of print, I should think they had it in stock. If not I could lend it to you- or my own old copy of ‘the Puzzle for a curious girl’ which I inherited from my mother, and is somewhere in the house, though I cannot lay my hand on it without a search.1 It has a red back, and illustrations at the top of the chapters, in the style of 1810-20, I should say – but of course they may have been made for the edition.

But I should hardly think the idea or the writing were Addisonian though it is a very clever story. It seems to me to be of a later period than Mrs Dorothy Kilner’s Jemima Placid and the ‘little gilt books’ of the ‘corner of St Paul’s Church Yard

yours sincerely
C M Yonge
