MS Girton College Cambridge, Yonge XIII 11
Dear Mrs Belfield
The precious mittens are safely come – it is a very curious genealogy for them – They are exactly like some little lace mittens of the 17th century figured in Mrs Earle’s ‘Child Life in Colonial days’
Madam Cromwell must been Elizabeth daughter of Richard who died at 83 in 1741 – Her mother, who was Dorothy Major of Hursley died in 1675 – so the mittens could not have been sent to her –2
I will return them as soon as I have been able to shew them to a cousin of mine, devoted to King Charles and will in the meantime keep them safely
I knew Mrs Wynyard when she was living at Hursley. I was glad to hear she is so much better
Yours truly
C.M. Yonge
