I am sorry you had such an ungrateful return for your kindness but I have not yet proceeded into the outer air, and am only picking up the neglected tangles that were left. 2

I am very much obliged for the photographs. Little Eustacie as ever comes out the best

2The reference to Eustacie, a character in The Chaplet of Pearls suggests that the photographs were of the tableaux at St. Swithin's on 19 July 1899 in honour of CMY's seventieth birthday, but the date indicates that the letter was written in the following year.
