. . . Kensington. I have just been having the account of the labours of Boxing day when from 2.30 to 12.30 at night there had to be one incessant round of diversions to keep the girls out of mischief. No wonder she finishes her letter by saying she can only feel thankful when Christmas is over. I directed a lady the other day to find out about the G W H S, for her London parish. I wonder whether it came to anything

    I have a firm date for this on my transcription, March 31, 1870 and a note saying this is based on “the envelope and position in the scrapbook”. I realize this sounds very late to be discussing Christmas activities, so will try to remember to check next time I go to this library.

    I wonder if the GWHS could be an offshoot of the Workhouse Visiting Society, and perhaps some sort predecessor of the GFS.
