My dear Mary1

Thank you, this is charming! I do not know that the fun and the presents need necessarily be connected—could we not have one of those puppet shews where the girls are the puppets? Or could we have your own old Blue Beard, which would be the best fun of all—if it does not take up too much time and space and people. What do you think?

And for our own delectation, we would have ‘Puffs’ and ‘Anachronisms.’ Which will suit you best for the entertainment the evening before G F S. or the evening of the day after, I suspect that would be best to give time for preparation.

Your affectionate and thankful
C M Yonge

1This is guesswork, but Mary Anderson Morshead was a great organizer of girls and of amateur dramatics, and seems a likely recipient of this letter. The letter must obviously date from after the foundation of the Girls' Friendly Society in 1875, and more likely from the late 1880s.
