My dear Julian
The photographer finds our lights so very inconvenient that I am going to bring him down to House, & get the benefit of your dark chamber.2 I will come after luncheon – in about 3/4 of an hour

C M Yonge

1A tiny scrap of paper, evidently sent by hand.
2This note may relate to the photograph of CMY taken by Herbert Rose Barraud (1845-1896) and published in his Men and Women of the Day: A Portrait Gallery of Contemporaries 7 vols (London: Bentley 1888-94). It evidently dates from before the sale of Otterbourne House which was shortly followed by Julian’s death on 17 October 1891.
