My dear Miss Wilcox1
Fisher Unwin has sent me this letter asking me to forward it, and as you are the only person I know likely to be able to do so, I send it on to you, taking the opportunity at the same time of returning your book which has been most useful to me, I kept it so long because I found I had to lengthen out Grisly Grisell and I wanted to refer to it

Yours sincerely
C M Yonge

1The recipient of this letter was evidently a member of the Wilcox family of Whitburn, cousins of Lewis Carroll, whom CMY had met through her friendship with the Collinson and Harrison families. Grisly Grisell is set in Whitburn, and the book was probably a local history. Margaret Wilcox was dead, and this letter was perhaps addressed to her younger sister Isabella, who was still living in Whitburn at the time of the 1891 census.
