MS British Library Add MSS 54921: 254

Dear Mr Macmillan
I have been looking for Innes’s accounts, (I send the agreement drawn up with him and Tanner in /93.) but there is no mention of the Castle builders in it1 nor in any of the subsequent accounts, which go to /96. I cannot find a later one, though I should have thought there would have been one in /97.

I think the book must have been out of print when he took the business over from Walter Smith. I know there has been a recent reprint, within the last 3 or 4 years, but I see no trace of payment for royalty in /96. The book was a very early one republished by Mozley after appearing in the Monthly Packet, and must have been handed on through Smith nor do I believe that Innes sent me any agreement before the reprint, but I cannot speak with certainty, nor tell the date, as I have not the book so you had better act as may be best. Can Innes shew that he paid me Royalty or (within the last years) was it absorbed in other accounts?

I have little books in wrappers sold well at first, but afterwards did not succeed, being undersold by SPCK but I have been asked several times lately for Questions on the Catechism2

Countess Kate and the Stokesley Secret join into the Daisy Chain series and might have a sale.

Beginnings of Church History and Talks about Laws are perhaps superseded and Kings of England is already obsolete for schools

Womankind has been so far recommended by the Mother’s Union that there ought not to be so many on hand, but perhaps it is behind the times

Yours sincerely
C M Yonge
